This does not happen often, but I fell in love head over heels. KUSSMAUL is definitely on the very top of my love list. My new favourite spot in Vienna.

on the first sight

 I discovered it by accident while strolling up and down the lovely Christmas market in the cosy little side street of the Spittelberg in heart of the 7th district.

The impressive ambience of the Kussmaul reminds me a lot of my favourite restaurant Nomad in Sydney. The concept combines cosmopolitan chic paired with slow food and outraging service.

The restaurant combines the elements of a casual cafe, trendy bar and exclusive dining under one roof. I love the open kitchen design which allows to observe the chefs and patissiers within their element. And the wintergarden! Where you will find seasonal herb gardens hanging in the windows. 

Mario Bernatovic who is the former kitchen chef from the famous restaurant "Motto am Fluss" has now very successfully invented his own baby.

The manifesto embraces the "harvest natural cuisine". It practically means that all their dishes are artisanal and hand crafted masterpieces using solely seasonal and locally sourced ingredients. The menu fusions international cuisine with traditional Viennese specialities. 

We ordered brunch which included home made granola with fruit and yoghurt, an amazing avocado banana salad, a soft boiled egg, hummus and baby spinach salad and freshly toasted handcrafted bread. Johannes decided for typical Austrian creamy  tribes garnished with chervil and chives.  

My personal favourite - have a guess-  the scrambled eggs with avocado tartar and pumpkin seed oil. I just love anything containing avocado and eggs.

We could not help ourselves but order some dessert. 

You are in heaven! 

The house patisserie offers a wide range of mouthwatering sweets. Just to mention a few of these little naughties: home made cheesecake, caramel slices, carrot cake macarons, caramelised lemon tart, blackberry Eclairs, hand-rolled chocolate truffles, chocolate glazed cake pops, broiche cakes and other lovely pastries... 



The decision was hard but we had to make one. 

The macarons and cheesecakes were divine.  


Never leave Vienna without a kiss. 

Kussmaul is not only the perfect place for your next dinner and drinks but also ideal for your weekend brunch or afternoon tea and cake.
